Frequently Asked Questions
-
WHO IS IT NOT SUITABLE FOR?Dermaplaning is not suitable for you if you have any of the following: Active acne Bleeding disorders or difficulty clotting Diabetes that is not under the control of medication or diet Skin cancers, cold sores/herpes, keloid scarring or eczema Cancer that is undergoing treatment, including chemotherapy or radiation
-
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE DERMAPLANING?A dermaplaning treatment takes approximately 45 minutes, including skin prep and blading and a rejuvenating mask applied. The treatment can be repeated every 4-8 weeks.
-
DERMAPLANING AFTERCAREThere is no down time associated with derma planing however we recommend following these guidelines for best results: Wear a physical SPF daily. Avoid sun exposure for 5-7 days post treatment. Waxing and hair removal procedures should be avoided for 7-14 days post procedure. Facial treatments are not advised for a minimum of 7 days post procedure. Exfoliating products are not to be used for 3 -5 days.
-
WILL HAIR GROW BACK THICKER OR DARKER AFTER DERMAPLANING?Your hair will grow back exactly the same colour and structure as it was prior to Dermaplaning; this is because the actual hair follicles are not being impacted.
-
DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK ON BLONDE HAIRS?Laser wavelengths are unable to treat hairs without a target. Blonde and Grey hairs do not contain pigment therefore it has no target which is ineffective for laser.
-
DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREAT DARK SKIN TYPES?YES - we use the Nd:Yag 1060 laser which is specifically designed to treat those with darker skin types. Laser and light-based devices used for hair removal are highly sensitive to the colour and melanin in the skin, which plays a crucial role in the treatment of ethnic skin types. Dark skin absorbs the laser light more than light skin does, so to make the treatment safe for dark skin tones, the Nd:Yag laser was developed. This laser has a longer wavelength than lasers for lighter skin types. This allows the laser to bypass the darker epidermis, penetrating deeper into the skin thus avoiding potential epidermal damage (surface damage).
-
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS AFTER EACH TREATMENT?Significantly reduced hair growth after each treatment. Hair that does grow back is finer than the original hair. Multiple laser sessions are required at 4-8 week intervals. Typically 6-10 sessions may be required.
-
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR A TREATMENT?There are a few important things to remember when preparing for a laser hair removal treatment. Hair Preparation – You must wait 4 weeks after your last wax as the hairs need to be intact for the treatment to work. But don’t worry, you can shave as often as you like after you last waxing treatment. It’s also important to shave the area the night before your treatment and arrive for your treatment with clean skin. No lotions, makeup, perfume, powder, bath oil/shower oil, should be present on the area to be treated. No Fake Tan – We will be unable to perform your laser treatment if there is any tanning solution present on the skin. Do not apply fake tan on the areas to be treated within two weeks of your appointment. Medication – Some medications can cause our skin to become photosensitive (more sensitive to light) it’s important that you inform your Laser Specialist of any medications you regularly take during your initial consultation, and also update us to any changes in your medications. (Don’t worry – we will ALWAYS remind you of this!)
-
HOW OFTEN AND HOW MANY LASER TREATMENTS WILL I REQUIRE?This will depend on the area being treated, hair tone and skin type. In general, facial hair will be treated every 4 weeks, body areas every 6 weeks and legs every 8 weeks. The Lutronic Clarity delivers incredible results for Laser hair removal in 4-6 treatments for lighter skin types and 8-12 sessions for darker skin types.
-
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW POST TREATMENT?Follicular edema, or hair follicle swelling, is a perfectly natural result of every laser hair removal session. In 90% of patients it has gone in 15 minutes. In rare cases it can last for several days and cause itching. In these cases treatment with Aloe Vera lotion is recommended. The area may feel like you have a mild sunburn for up to two hours. Application of cool towel or ice pack is advised. Always use SPF 50 on treated areas and avoid sun exposure. Do not wax between laser sessions; only shave if necessary.
-
WHO CAN'T GET THIS TREATMENT?People experiencing: pregnancy and breast feeding, roaccutane, papulopustular rosacea, active acne, cancer or radiation therapy, keloid scarring or abnormal wound healing, permanent fillers, recent fillers (within last 2 weeks), waxing (within 1 week), warfarin, herpes simplex, sunburn, open wounds of any kind, eczema, dermatitis, infections, recent facial surgery, warts, bacterial fungal infections, solar keratosis, haemophilia, should NOT get this treatment. Consult with a medical professional if you're unsure.
-
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR REJUVENATION, ACNE SCARRING AND STRETCH MARKS?Rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments 4 weeks apart Acne Scarring: 6 treatments 6 weeks apart Stretch marks: 4-8 treatments 4-6 weeks apart
-
HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR SKIN POST TREATMENT?Patient After Care for the next 2-5 days following treatment Skin is to be kept as clean as possible to reduce infection. Avoid the use of moisturisers or lotions containing active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acids, perfumes and colours. Do not exfoliate the skin or pick as this may cause infection or scaring Do not expose the skin to the sun as your skin will be a little more sensitive. Wear a hat and sunscreen daily Avoid vigorous exercise, saunas, chlorinated and salt water pools, steam baths and hot showers for 48 hours Do not wax, IPL, laser or depilatory creams for 2 weeks following your treatment Apply moisturiser as required. Contact the salon on 0437 207 756 if you have any further queries
-
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY SKIN?Skin Preparation Healthy skin will respond far better to treatment than a weak skin therefore a skin care regime using active ingredients prior is always recommended. We can help you with this. Applying a numbing cream (purchased from a chemist) 45 minutes prior to a cleansed skin is optional for comfort.
-
IS IT DIFFERENT FOR SMOKERS?Smoking reduces the capacity for skin to make collagen, as it is harder to stimulate growth factors. Therefore it also reduces the skins natural ability to heal. More bruising may occur following the needling process and therefore result may be limited
-
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?Each person experiences pain differently and needle lengths will vary over different areas of the face. You may feel a warmth or scratching sensation once the procedure starts. If you have opted to apply a numbing cream prior to your procedure you won’t feel much pain. Pin point bleeding is to be expected with some peoples treatments depending on the condition being treated however skin will not continue to bleed following the treatment.
-
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME AFTER THE TREATMENT?You may experience facial redness, sensitivity and inflammation for 12-48 hours after the treatment. The skin can become tight and slightly uncomfortable. Bruising, crusting and light flaking may occur on the days following the procedure. Grazing and pustules may also occur but are not common. Application of a breathable camouflage will seal the skin and cover any redness for an immediate return to work. The wound healing response is the biological repair action that cascades within the skin after micro trauma. The microscopic puncture channels created by Dermapen™ create controlled regeneration. 3 Stages of wound healing The inflammation phase – first 48 hours to 5 days post treatment. Redness occurs, bacteria and debris are phagocytosed or removed. Platelets form to prevent further bleeding and release growth factors. Proliferation phase – day 2 – 21 post treatment. Angiogenesis, fibroblasts grow and form a new extra cellular matrix, by excreting collagen and fibronectin. Re-epithelisation of the epidermis occurs and epithelial cells proliferate and migrate to the wound providing protection for new tissue. Maturation – 20 days to 24 months. Collagen is remodelled and realigned. Type III collagen is replaced by type I. Scar tissue is flattened. Cells that are no longer needed are removed. We highly recommend a hydrafacial or enzyme treatment 7-14 days following your treatment for elevated results to the skin!
-
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments (spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments and when combined with the recommended post treatment care.
-
WHAT TO EXPECTResults are immediate, with smooth, glowing, hydrated skin visible right after your session.
-
EXPECTED SIFE EFFECTS/CHANGESExpected changes over the next 7 days apart from healthy, hydrated glowing skin include: Day 1 to 3 – Your skin may experience tightness, redness and sensitivity (similar to a mild sunburn) Day 3 to 7 – Possible peeling or slight flaking lasting 2 to 5 days With the lymphatic system being stimulated your skin may purge for a few days following your initial treatment.
-
HYDRAFACIAL AFTERCAREAvoid the use of moisturisers or lotions containing active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acids, perfumes and colours for 3 days Your skin will be a little more sensitive to the sun so keep sun exposure to a minimum. Please wear a hat and sunscreen daily. This should be a regular routine for you anyway! Apply foundation as you wish Slight flaking may develop in some areas. If so please do not rub or pick the skin as this may lead to a scar.
-
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE RECOMMENDED?You will notice a visible difference after just one session. Each session can range from 30 to 60 minutes; for best results, we recommend a 60-minute session to ensure thorough skin care infusion. As for treatment frequency, this can vary from weekly to every 8 weeks, depending on the treated area and your skin's response. To achieve optimal results, we advise a series of 6-8 treatments however we recommend consulting with your therapist for personalised recommendations.

IS THERE ANY PREPARATION I WILL NEED TO DO BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?YES - to avoid unnecessary complications please comply with the following: Before Your Treatment ● You may not be pregnant or lactating. ● Patients who have used Accutane or similar products within the last 6 months CANNOT be treated. ● Discontinue the use of any topical products that may be drying or irritating (e.g. AHAs, BHAs, retinoids) 3-7 days prior. ● Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for at least 3 days prior. These actions may interfere with the natural inflammatory process critical to proper healing and skin rejuvenation. ● Avoid taking any blood-thinning agents for 3 - 7 days prior unless otherwise prescribed by your physician. ● Avoid unprotected sun exposure, or tanning (including tanning lotions to the area) for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure. Always use an SPF 30 or higher containing zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide for proper sun protection. ● Avoid other aesthetic procedures and cosmetic injections in the area(s) to be treated for 2 weeks before and after. ● If you are prone to cold sores, it is recommended to take antiviral medication for 7 days before and after. ● Stay hydrated by drinking 8+ glasses of water daily to improve results & healing time. Day of Treatment ● If possible arrive with clean skin free of any lotion, oil, makeup, powder, or sunscreen. ● Notify your practitioner of any changes in your medication, or health status, or personal activities that may be relevant to your treatment.
-
WHAT IS REQUIRED POST TREATMENT?After Your Treatment What to Expect: You may experience mild to moderate erythema (redness), edema (swelling), or a warm stinging / sunburn-like sensation for several days post-treatment, however for more aggressive treatments, these symptoms may last longer than 3 days. ● Other possible skin reactions include irritation, itching, and general sensitivity, which may last for 3 or more days. ● Results are both immediate and progressive. Multiple treatments may be required to achieve individually desired results. ● Commonly patients experience purging of water retention caused by swelling and impurities in the form of water blisters or acne breakouts. This is normal and should resolve within a few days. 48 Hour Care: ● DO NOT wear Makeup for at least 48 hours. ● Avoid all strenuous activity for a minimum of 48 hours as sweating increases infection risk. ● DO NOT USE ICE on the treatment area (dependent on treatment). DO NOT use any anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These actions may interfere with the natural inflammatory process critical to proper healing and skin rejuvenation. ● DO NOT pick, scratch, excessively rub or scrub the treatment area. It is imperative to allow natural healing to minimize post-treatment complications. Treat the skin gently as if you have a sunburn. General Care: ● You may take Tylenol for post-treatment discomfort or Benadryl / Zyrtec if you experience excessive itching (histamine reaction). ● Avoid All Direct & Indirect Sun Exposure. ● Always use an SPF 30 or higher containing zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide for proper sun protection. It is safe to begin the use of SPF starting 24-48 hours after your treatment. ● Do not have any other treatments for at least 1 - 2 weeks following treatment or until the skin has completely healed. ● Your therapist will make individual recommendations on when to resume normal skincare (typically after 2 days). ● Keep the treated area well hydrated (specifically for the first 2 days).
-
HOW DOES LASER SKIN REJUVENATION WORK?A laser beam produces heat energy to selectively damage independent structures, correcting condition-specific symptoms without harming surrounding tissue. Individual results may vary and are difficult to predict. Noticeable improvements are visible after a single session. Consecutive treatments are highly recommended for optimal results. Future maintenance sessions may be required even if excellent results are achieved. Age, ethnicity, metabolism, medications, supplements (hair, skin, nail, B12, Biotin), hormonal changes, and other factors can affect treatment results. Complete clearance cannot be guaranteed but ideal candidates can achieve significant symptom reduction.

SQT BIO-MICRONEEDLING AFTERCAREPlease do not touch or wash your face on the day of your SQT treatment. (Day 0) To alleviate sensitivity and itchiness and calm inflammation, spray your skin with the Circadia Blueberry & White Tea Calming Mist every 30 minutes. Only apply the Recovery Serum in the evening following your SQT treatment. (Day 0) For the following 48 hours (Days 1 & 2), splash your face with lukewarm water (no cleanser) and apply your aftercare serum/cream twice daily in a gentle patting motion. When drying your face, use a clean towel and only pat dry. Do not rub! The following days (Day 3-5), you can start using a mild and gentle cleanser and introduce a mild moisturiser. Please avoid products containing harsh chemicals, fruit acids, retinol, manual exfoliants, alcohol, perfume, etc. Once peeling/flaking starts around Day 3, avoid picking and pulling off the dead skin as this can cause scarring and infection. Avoid complete sun exposure (and sunscreen) for the first 3 days. From Day 3 on, always apply high-quality sunscreen throughout the day. You can begin using active ingredients from day 7 onward.
-

-
WHY IS IT SAFE FOR PREGNANT AND BREASTFEEDING MUMMAS?Many treatments cannot be done during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to certain risks to the mother and/or baby. SQT Biomicroneedling does not use chemicals or devices that can cause harm to the mother or child. It is all-natural.

-
CAN IT BE USED ON ROSACEA/SENSITIVE SKIN?Yes. SQT Biomicroneedling repairs and enhances the health of the skin barrier and can calm and balance rosacea and skin sensitivity.
-
WILL EVERYONE PEEL & IF NOT DO THEY STILL GET RESULTS?The degree of peeling depends on the intensity of the facial massage and the pre-condition of skin (other treatments & products used prior) The peeling part indicates skin that is regenerating faster or dead cells that have accumilated over time. If peeling hasn't occured it does not mean the client will not see results. If erythema was induced then the collagen synthesis has been ingnited.
-
HOW WILL SQT HELP MY ACNE?SQT Bio microneedling assists in killing the bacteria that cause acne, calms inflammation, and increases cell turnover to speed up skin resurfacing and healing.
-
WHAT ARE SPICULES AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?Spicules are the endoskeleton of a sponge. They are a sharp, barbed like structure that contain important nutrients and minerals for the skin. SQT Spongilla spicule needles travel deep into the dermal layer of your skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin synthesis. It is a hydrolyte of the purest organism in the world, a raw material purified by a patented refining technology. The Spongilla therapy speeds up the cell turnover process to 5-7 days (regardless of your age) leaving your skin feeling smoother, more youthful, and vibrant. 3-5 million micro channels are created within 5 minutes of treatment application! The skin is being stimulated for up to 72 hours post treatment, providing nutrients to the skin and peeling off waste. It also improves the effectiveness of topical skin care products, enhancing their absorption by up to 3,000%.
-

No two skins are alike and will react differently to different treatments). “Needles” inside the skin. (We have introduced millions of teeny tiny microscopic needles into the skin. This can be experienced as mild irritation for 2-3 days). Within the 2-3 day period, the SQT treatment may induce some redness, mild swelling, and itchiness at this time.

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES WHEN TREATING ACNE?To determine the contributing factor(s), eliminate bacteria, balance oil, calm sebaceous glands, and reduce inflammation.
-
WHAT CAUSES ACNE?The sebaceous glands in the skin produce sebum, an oily substance that helps to lubricate and protect the skin. When the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, which can be influenced by: Hormonal imbalances Gut health/Diet Genetics Certain Medications and Certain Medical Conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) the sebum then mixes with dead skin cells and plugs up the hair follicles, leading to the development of acne.
-
WHAT ARE THE 7 MAIN TYPES OF ACNE?WHITEHEADS Occurs when a pore becomes clogged with a mix of dead skin cells and sebum. BLACKHEADS Blackheads get their name because they appear as dark spots on your skin. Like whiteheads, blackheads are caused by clogged pores that change colour when exposed to oxygen. PAPULES Swollen red bumps that many of us imagine as “typical” breakouts. PUSTULES Essentially papules that fill with pus when your immune system kicks in. NODULES Appear similar to papules but start deeper within the layers of your skin CYSTS Like nodules, cysts resemble deep, red lumps. But unlike nodules, cysts are filled with pus or other liquids. MILIA Milia are small, light bumps that often crop up around your nose, cheeks, and eyes. They are caused by trapped skin flakes or keratin deposits. BOOK YOUR SKIN CONSULTATION HERE

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES WHEN TREATING PIGMENTATION?To establish the underlying cause, reduce the pigmentation without causing undesirable outcomes.
-
WHAT CAN CAUSE PIGMENTATION?Causes can include: Skin inflammation (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) Use of certain drugs (such as minocycline, certain cancer chemotherapies, and birth control pills) Hormone system diseases such as Addison Disease. Hemochromatosis (iron overload) Sun exposure. Pregnancy Trauma (physical, friction and heat)
-
WHAT ARE SOME TYPES OF PIGMENTATION?Freckles These are either genetic or develop after repeated exposure to sunlight. Melasma Sits deeper in the skin’s dermis. Appears on the face (usually on top of the lip, cheeks, and chin) as larger brown patches with a non-distinct border. Often stimulated by hormones. The condition is made worse with UV exposure, some medications, pregnancy and stress. Solar Lentigines/Lentigos Also referred to as liver spots, age spots or sun spots, these are pigmented spots with a clearly defined edge. They may occur anywhere on the body and vary in colour from light brown to black. These spots are caused by UV sun exposure, and the degree to which they occur depends on how much UV light these melanin pigments are exposed to. These must be monitored as they may develop into skin cancer and melanoma. Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation This is a response to skin injury and can result from acne, burns, friction or aggressive clinical treatments such as chemical peels, dermabrasion, laser and IPL. This condition often resolves with time and generally responds to topical products, although it can recur.

WILL THE SPOTS AND REDNESS REAPPEAR?New brown spots, telangiectasia and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimise sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness. Rosacea is chronic and cannot be 'cured' with any laser or light source, however its appearance can be improved.
-
WHAT DO THE TREATMENTS FEEL LIKE?When the pulse of light is delivered, patients will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation similar to a slight sting from a hot rubber band.
-
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve.
-
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended for excessively sun-damaged skin.
-
